The made-in-India Godavari class frigates of Indian Navy, one among which was sunk, were first commissioned into the Indian Navy in 1983.

In a video released by Indian Navy, an old, decommissioned missile frigate of the Godavari class has been sunk by an anti-ship missile fired by INS Prabal, a corvette in Arabian Sea.

According to the Indian Navy, ''the missile homed on with deadly accuracy at maximum range, at sinking the target vessels/ships.'' The Prabal is armed with 16 Russian made KH-35 'Uran' anti-ship missiles, believed to possess a maximum range of roughly 130 kilometres.
