SBI has alerted its customers to stay cautious and to not ignore the SMS alert regarding balance inquiry or mini statement when the request isn't initiated by him.

Mentioning about the new facility during a tweet, SBI said "Now whenever we receive an invitation for Balance Enquiry or Mini Statement via ATMs, we'll alert our customers by sending an SMS in order that they will immediately block their open-end credit if the transaction isn't initiated by them."

Of late SBI has been taking many steps to guard customers from unauthorised ATM transactions. As a part of this effert, earlier SBI had introdced cardless cash withdrawal facility from ATMs. the power allows its customers to withdraw cash with the assistance of an one-time password (OTP). For cash withdrawal over Rs 10,000 between 8 pm and eight am, SBI customers will need to provide OTP along side the open-end credit PIN. The OTP-based withdrawal isn't available at non-SBI ATMs.

The bank has been giving tips to its customers on ways to stay their money safe. SBI recommended that customers should conduct ATM transactions in complete privacy so as to avoid any ATM-cum-debit card fraud. SBI has revised its ATM withdrawal charges effective 1 July.

SBI also shares safety tips for its customers in regular interval to spot fraudsters who are always on the prowl trying to find some loophole within the bank's security system. during a recent tweet it shared the method to register a cybercrime complaint. (Source)
