PM Modi took Twitter & Instagram to share very good news about Asiatic Lion living in Gujarat's Gir forest and also shares the images of the majestic Asiatic lion.



According to 15th census the population of the lion significantly increased by almost 29% (i.e in 2015 lion population was 523 and as of now in 2020 they are 674). and Secondly there is also the significant increase in the geographical distribution area where the Asiatic lion's habitat in Gujarat's Gir forest by almost 36.36% (i.e in 2015 it covered 22,000 sq. km and as of now in 2020 it covers about 30,000 sq. km area).


PM Modi praised the work of people of Gujarat and also forest department of Gujarat as they were able to to contribute in providing the lions natural habitat to grow and as they are endangered and only found in state of Gujarat's Gir forest. The 15th lion census could not be conducted as per schedule in 2020 due to the covid-19 so in June 2020 an estimation exercise counted the Asiatic lions population in Gir forest of Gujarat.
